hey guys it's mrs. rains today we are going to continue on with division of whole numbers we started the week out dividing by a 1 digit divisor yesterday we divided by a two-digit divisor but all those two digit divisors where a multiple of 10 So today we're going to be dividing with some 2 digit divisors that are not as easy to work with as are multiples of 10 but we're going to use our top and bottom strategy of a I know that we talked about yesterday I had to help us as we work through our problems before we move on any further everybody needs a pencil and three different color twistables on your desk last week when we were talking about multiplying with standard algorithm we went through and we color coded are partial products with are twistables and we're going to do the same thing today Vision we're going to color code are partial quotients what we're going to do here is we're going to divide 6314 divided by 14 now what we have set up here we have our top and bottom chart started for us here the one we made yesterday was a lot easier than this one because it was there all multiples of 10 but today we're going to be making multiples of 14 in this first problem so we're going to do this one together and so if you'll just make sure and follow along with me on this first problem the next problem and let you make your top and bottom chart at so let's look at this first one together so we know that this number was calling is going to be the top and then the number we write in it's going to be the bottom number so top and bottom that way alright so let's go ahead and fill this out so 14 * 1 is 1414 * 2 is 28 14 * 3 is 42. Mrs Reeves has a paper that I've already worked out all the problems on so I'm able to write these down quickly but what I did was I was over here on the side and I would say 14 x 4 is 56 and 14 * 5 is 70 + 14 * 6 is 84 so when you are making your top and bottom charts that's what you're going to be doing is you're just going to be working out all these quick little multiplication problems on the side okay so 14 * 7 is 90 14 * 8 is 112 and 14 * 9 is 126 so now or top and bottom chart is going to help make our division a little easier alright sounds good or division problem well first of all can we say but same room where can I say I have 6 cookies and share with 14 kids no I can't do that I don't have enough cookies to share their buddies what does 0 up there now we're going to talk about two numbers here these first two numbers if I have 63 cookies can I share with 14 kids yes I can so I'm got to figure out if I can get 263 without going over that's not process right game we talked about yesterday we're going to figure out which one of these bottom numbers can get as close as 63 without going over well I think 56 cuz if I go to 70 that's going to be over 63 so my top number is going to be a 4 to put a four up here + 4 * 14 is 56 and then when I subtract I have to regroup September 13th 13 - 6 7 + 5 - 5 + 0 so that point we have found one partial quotient so when I / 4K take one color one of your twistables K when I / 4 I got a partial quotient of 56 okay so now I want to bring down my one so now I'm sharing 71 cookies with 14 kids and again I want to go close to 71 in my bottom call him without going over so as I go down I call him I think 70 will be as close as I can get without going over so I know that 14 * 5 gives me 70 so 5 * 14 is 70 and when I subtract I get one now and take another color twistable Colette's Finance partial quotient hey let's put a box around at 5 when I divided by the five I got this part right here as my Pain questions and then let's bring down our last number are for right here and I have 14 and I need to look in my bottom lemon see how close I can get to 14 without going over well I can get right on the money I know that 114 goes in a 14 one time I want to subtract I get the now I want you to get your last color twistable and let's color code this last partial quotient so 1 x 14 gave me 14 so each one of the stages of the top helps me get a partial quotient throughout my problem but look at the next problem we're going to do a problem that says 2141 divided by 19 and we know that we want to start the problem on making our top and bottom table so I'm going to let you go ahead and make your top and bottom table so we know that 19 * 1 is 19 and from here you're going to have to do work out all the 19 * 29 * 2 is 18 equals 38 19 * 3 * going to work out each problem and that time table so y'all can start the video here until everybody has that table made and then we will start working our problem alright so let's work our problems out now so I'm going to start with my first digit I'm going to start with my two can I share two cookies with 19 kids I cannot sorry to put a zero up there cuz each kid would get zero cookies so now let's think about two digits if I have 21 cookies can I share that with 19 kids yes I can how many would each kid get each kid would get one cooking we see that right here on our top and bottom chart for the clothes that I can get to 21 is 19 so 1 * 19 is 19 we're also trying to regroup and I get to now let's take our twistable and let's color code they're so my first part of my question I did right here in this problem in the Parlor Palm 19 okay now let's do the next part so bring down my for and again what's the closest I can get to 24 without going over well if I look at my top and bottom charger they close as I can get again is 19 so I'm going to go one time 1 * 19 is 19 and then I'm going to subtract going to regroup and I get 5 now grab your second color twistable and let's find where we how we figured at this party a question K this part right here is where we figured out our partial quotient the second digit and let's finish the problems and I'll bring them I won look at our top and bottom chart what's the closest I can get to 51 without going over okay I think it's a snot or 38 right here okay if I go to 57 that's going to be too much so we can stop 38 so I know that I can / 2 * 2 * 19 is 38 I'm going to regroup hey if I want to put 13 so grab your last color twistable from color the ray gun and here is my last part of my clothes shouldn't and here's my problem for the problem where I came up with that question. So forget my 13 is there anything else to bring down know we're out of numbers over here let me answer this 13 is my remainder so I answer is 112 remainder 13 and our last problem we're going to look at is 8000 836 / 16 so what would I would like to do here as I would like for you to find an elbow partner at your table so mine is Halo 3 and Halo 5 there's only have 3 people at your tables you three can work together cuz of the three friends at table three can work together the three friends at table 5 can work together but my other tables I need you to get with an elbow partner or two other partners and I want you to do two things for me I want you to make your top and bottom table okay and I remember we're going to do that by coming over here and saying well I don't need to do 16 times 1 right but 16 if 32 and then you'll keep going 16 * 3 and $5 table then I would like for you guys together with your other partners how to solve 8836 divided by 16 using the stuff that we've just use on their two previous problems if you have questions you can talk to your table group what back of the problems we've already done do you have any other questions you can raise your hand and hold him to you and see if she can help you as well but go ahead and work through this problem for me please okay let's go over this problem quickly and see how you did I know that if I have ate cookies I cannot share that with 16 kids can we get zero cookies now I'm going to look at 88 canister 88 cookies with 16 kids yes I can look at our chart over here are talking about him chart with the clothes cuz I can get to 88 without going over I hope there we are at their ad so I'm going to divide this 5 times each can I get 5 cookies so 5 * 16 is 80 do I subtract I get eight and there was that first partial quotient we found right here and now I bring down my three and again I think 5 is the closest I can get to 83 without going over so 5 * 16 is 80 I'm going to subtract and get three and there was my second partial quotient and then lastly bring down my six the closest I can get to 36 in let's see here right there 32 so I'm going to divide 36 - x and 2 * 16 is 32 when I subtract yep for so there's a fall apart of my clothes s*** and here's a part of the problem already saw that out is there anything else to bring down no there's not so this is show me my reminder if mrs. Holtz will ask for a couple of on tears to pass out journals we need to get this entry into our journals so y'all go ahead and journals And when everybody is ready you can start the video back so you can go ahead and posit now okay so everybody will go ahead and open to your table of contents we will add in this entry into our table of contents so today is 927 the song entry 12 and we're going to call that dividing whole numbers and we will be on page 15 so go ahead and turn it over to page 15 and get this glued in and then we can go ahead and Clark journals and put them back on the shelf and Miss home food give you more instructions to move on to your playlist you guys make good choices work on your nerves when you're working on your playlist number those norms using appropriate voice levels and staying on task so you're trying to work and get those done so you can work on the project hopefully by the end of the week thanks guys I'll have a great day
