On November 12, the Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association and dozens of volunteers made a special stop at Westwind Elementary to provide every student with a brand-new coat, spreading warmth and kindness this winter season.

Saundra Wimberley, a Crestview Elementary first-grade teacher, has been named the Texas Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Texas Council for the Social Studies, TXCSS. This prestigious award is only given to one elementary teacher across the state each year for their exceptional impact on the field of social studies.

Over 800 Frenship second grade students at all nine Frenship elementary schools participated in the eighth annual United We Read, an event aimed at promoting literacy and a love of reading at a young age.

The second-grade classes at Ridgewood Elementary are making noise as they explore the science of sound energy. To learn how sound travels across distances, students created their own noisemakers and tested them out on the playground.

Last week, Crestview Elementary first graders got a lesson in real-life skills during a trip to their neighborhood United Supermarkets. From writing shopping lists to understanding the value of money, students experienced firsthand how learning happens beyond the classroom.
