Upland Heights Elementary Holds Canned Food Drive

The annual Upland Mission Canned Food Drive at Upland Heights Elementary was held right before Thanksgiving Break from November 14th through the 18th. Students were asked to bring two cans of food to participate in various dress up days throughout the week.

In addition to collecting canned goods, members of the student council sold ‘turkey feathers’ to fellow students for $.25 each. Once purchased these feathers were used to dress a specific teacher's turkey. The student council members sold these feathers before school every day, and at the end of the week the most dressed teacher turkey had to wear a turkey costume on the campus news.

On that Friday, fourth grade math and science teacher, Stefanie Morris, has accumulated 180 feathers and had to appear on the campus news in a turkey suit.

All money received for the feathers were donated to Upland Mission alongside the canned goods. A representative from Upland Mission stated that the food and money raised from Upland Heights and other Frenship Campuses is enough to provide their beneficiaries with enough food to last through the holiday unit their next food drive with Joyland Amusement Park.
