My name is Lara Nelson, and I am honored to be the Assistant Principal at Upland Heights. I came to Upland Heights in 2017, and LOVE being at the best school around! I look forward to getting to know the parents and the students better this school year and am here to help make this your child’s best school year yet!
I have been in the public education realm for over 14 years. Before becoming an Assistant Principal, I taught everything from 1st Grade through 5th Grade and worked as a Reading Specialist for 2 years. I love working with all different ages of students and know what it takes for kids to learn and have a good educational experience.
Before teaching, I attended Angelo State University where I met my husband, Jeff. We have two children who both attend Frenship, and we all bleed blue and gold! I hope that your family will be involved in the Frenship community and will be filled with Tiger Pride!

Misty Speck

My name is Misty Speck and I am excited to be one of the assistant principals at Upland Heights Elementary. I look forward to getting to know the students and their families as well as helping students achieve their goals this year!
I graduated from Texas Tech University and taught for a total of 12 years at both Canyon and Frenship ISD. I then graduated from Angelo State University with a Master of Education degree. When Upland Heights opened in 2016, I served as the school counselor for 4 years. In 2020, I served as the assistant principal at Shallowater Middle School for 2 years before coming back to my favorite elementary, Upland Heights, to serve as an assistant principal in 2022.
I am married with 3 children, and we have a Boston Terrier named Pixie. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, shopping, reading, eating out, and watching my children in their various activities. I love being a part of the Upland Heights family and want to thank you in advance for your support as we navigate through another wonderful year!
