GEAR Teams Prepare for the Festival of Friendship

Get Excited About Robotics, or GEAR, is a program that Frenship elementary and middle school campuses participate and compete in each year. Students and coaches prepare for GEAR Robotics events by building robots with the LEGO Mindstorms program and the EV3 robots.

At the GEAR kickoff held at Frenship High School, teams from across the area were presented with this year’s challenge for competition, which is themed "Festival of Friendship."

This year’s challenge includes seven tasks: Raising the team Flag, Placing Dancers in Formation, Positioning the Cannons, Opening the Gate, Extending the Bridge, setting the table and posting the guards. Now that the students have the challenge, they will go back to their respective campuses to build their robots and design programs to complete the tasks given to them.

The GEAR Trial Run Day will be held on March 4 at the FHS Ninth Grade Center with the elementary teams starting in the morning and middle school teams in the afternoon. Game Day will be on April 15 at the FHS Ninth Grade Center.

The top teams will be invited to the Championship Rounds at Texas Tech University on April 29.
